The yield and seed weight of some bean cultivars in relation to weather conditions

The correlations between weather conditions in the six years of the field experiment and the total and marketable yields, as well as the weight of 1000 seeds of the studied bean cultivars were determined. The studies comprised five bean cultivars grown for dry seeds: ‘Aura’, ‘Igołomska’ - Phaseolus vulgaris L., and ‘Eureka’, ‘Blanka’, ‘Piękny Jaś’ - Phaseolus coccineus L. The weather conditions included the following parameters: the sum of temperatures over 10°C, mean air temperature and the sum of rainfall in particular months and in the whole period of vegetation (May-September). The data of the experiment were analysed by means of a linear regression method. No significant correlations were found between the sums of temperatures above 10°C in the period of May-September, the average air temperature in sequent months and in the vegetation period on the one hand, and the total and marketable yields and the size of seeds of five bean cultivars, on the other. Positive correlation coefficients were found to exist between total rainfall in July, negative - between total rainfall in August and the traits of bean yield mentioned above.
