The effect of desiccation on yield and quality of China aster (Callistephus chinensis Nees) ‘Aleksandra’ seeds

Foliar sprays of Callistephus chinensis Nees ‘Aleksandra’ with Harvade 250 SC at concentrations of 0, 0.1, 0.2, or 0.4% were carried out when seeds on the secondary capitula attained a moisture content of 57-68, 46-53, and 30-33%. The effects of the treatments on seed number per capitula and seed weight per plant, as well as percentage and mean germination time of seeds collected from primary, secondary, and tertiary capitula were examined. The best results were obtained after spraying the plants with Harvade 250 SC at concentrations of 0.2% when seeds on the secondary capitula attained a moisture content of 30-33%. This treatment increased seed number per capitula and seed weight per plant. It also increased the germination percentage of seeds collected mainly from primary and secondary capitula.
