In the years 1994-1995 the investigations were carried out on the seed vigour of goldpoppy (Eschscholtzia californica Cham.), China aster (Callistephus chinensis (L.) Ness.), garden balsam (Impatiens balsamina L.), and stock gillyflower (Matthiola bicornis DC.). Tha main aim of the study was to select the best method of seed vigour estimation in greenhouse and laboratory conditions. Vigour estimation of all investigated plant species can be based on their viability level measured by the TTC method. Germ's method can be used to estimate goldpoppy seed vigour. Counting plant emergences in the greenhouse was found to be a good method of measuring seed vigour of all investigated plant species.
