Observations of the growth and development of sorrel plants (Rumex acetosa L.) cv. Lyon were conducted. In the first year of study only 15% plants yielded seedstalks. In the second and third years all plants bloomed, which permitted the determination that the proportion of male and female specimens was 1:2 in the whole population. Earlier blooming was observed with seedstalks of male plants than with those of female ones. Seedstalks of male plants were smaller and also clustered fewer than half the flowers on female plants.
