During 14 years (1972-1986) the suitability of semidwarfing rootstocks: M 26, M 2, M 7, MM 106, MM 111 was evaluated for four cultivars: Empire, Cortland, McIntosh and Spartan. The largest trees were on MM 111, the smallest on M 26. The highest cumulative yield expressed as kg/1 cm2 trunk cross-section was obtained from trees planted on M 26 followed by those on MM 106. M 26 rootstock is the most suitable for Polish conditions among the tested rootstocks.
