Within the years 1986 and 1987, in private holdings located in Luborzyca and Proszowice communes, the research aimed at determing the energy outlay in onion cultivation was carried out.

The energy consumption was determined with the cummulative method. The global energy outlay was calculated. In a 1 hectare area a value of 83 737 MJ was observed in 1986, and in 1987 increased to 85 688 MJ. To produce 1 kg of onion, in those holdings, 5 573 MJ of energy was consumed. In the structure of the energy outlay, the main carrier was means of investment - 44.3 per cent, while the lowest one was hand-labor - 8.4 per cent.

To determine the degree of correlation of the level of energy outlay and the harvest received, the linear correlation coefficient r=0.91 was applied. To determine the degree of the quantitative relationship the function of linear regression was used. That function has a form as follows: y=-10.158+0.326x. It may be calculated, based on that formula, that increasing the energu outlay by 1 MJ per hectare causes the harvest increase by 0.326 kg.
