The aim of the work was to determine the effect of three planting dates (the third 10-day period of April and the first and second 10-day periods of May) of four potato cultivars (Bronka, Dukat, Mila and San) and of four levels of nitrogen fertilization (50, 100, 150 and 200 kg N/ha on the infection of foliage and tubers of potato by P. infestans.

The field experiment was carried out in the Agricultural Experimental Station Prusy near Kraków in 1984 and 1985 using the method of randomized sub-blocks design.

The obtained results show that the date of planting did not significantly affect the infection of foliage by P. infestans. Larger rates of nitrogen accounted for a significant increase in the number of potato tubers infected by this pathogen.
